The Sarcoma Foundation of America is hosting 5k races across the country to raise funding for sarcoma (soft tissue cancer) research, awareness, and advocacy. This is significant to me and my family because Millie was diagnosed with a rare type of pediatric sarcoma— specifically rhabdomyosarcoma— which ultimately took her life and light away from us all. Because this type of sarcoma is considered to be rare, it is extremely underfunded and treatment options are even more limited for children than they already are for pediatric cancer at large. (~4% of the entire national budget for cancer research is allocated to childhood cancer research).
This year's Race to Cure Sarcoma takes place in Suwanee, GA. It’s roughly 3 miles of paved track, family/stroller/dog friendly, and totally walkable (you don’t have to be a runner at all). All money raised from race registration goes to the Sarcoma Foundation of America’s mission. Childhood cancer treatment options and innovations follow funding, and because of that, I will forever be passionate about raising awareness of pediatric Rhabdomyosarcoma. No family should have to suffer the loss of their brightest light.
