Introducing the Mighty Millie Foundation

It is with great honor, hope, sadness, grief, and joy to share that our family has started the Mighty Millie Foundation in honor of our daughter, Millie.

In every way, this should look different. Millie should be here with us, cancer-free, enjoying Pre-K, riding scooters with Jack, planting her garden, playing with her cousins and friends, shining her light, and calling the shots with this new foundation. The most painful truth is that she would be if there were more effective treatment options for pediatric sarcoma. This reality is the most painful load to bear. And one we cannot keep quiet about.

When we became parents four and a half years ago, #childhoodcancer was never on our radar. We are a little embarrassed to admit that now after all we have learned and endured over the last two years. Childhood cancer is not as rare as we'd like to believe. Every day in the US, 46 families hear the unimaginable words, "your child has cancer." Every day, these forty-six families learn that the treatment options and outcomes for our precious children are not only excruciating, but may or may not have advanced in decades. Decades. This is absolutely unacceptable.

In a life that has left us with so much pain and so many questions, one thing remains to be true: we need each other more than ever. We decided to start this foundation so we may continue to raise our voices and make lifelong changes in childhood cancer, all in honor of our girl. Millie taught us so much about living a life of full joy and seeing the magic in the everyday moments. We seek to honor her with beautiful small moments that bring great, big joy. We hope that the Mighty Millie Foundation provides a place for her friends and family to honor her, live eyes wide open, love on others, and to advocate and create change.

Thank you for every drop of love and support you have shown to our family, as not one has gone unnoticed. It has been said before that some things in life cannot be fixed, they can only be carried. We believe this wholeheartedly, and we invite you to join us in carrying Millie’s light even further.
