A Marietta couple who lost their 3-year-old daughter to cancer is shining a spotlight on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, which is the month of September.

After the death of their daughter Amelia “Millie” Mracek from a rare form of soft tissue cancer in 2021, Nick and Claire Mracek formed the Mighty Millie Foundation. The nonprofit hosts an annual Shine Gold Kickoff fundraiser dedicated to raising funds for childhood cancer research.

Marietta Councilman Johnny Walker presented the couple with a proclamation from the city at the annual fundraiser held at The Good Kitchen & Market in Marietta.
